February 1, 2023 – Minutes
Welcome & call meeting to order/roll call.
Present – James Barron (Parent), Cassie Smith (Parent), Harmony Jones (Parent), Ryan Durant (Principal), Crystal Connors (Assistant Principal – Non-Voting), Whitney Bates (Staff – Non-Voting), Mary Hiebing (Voting – staff), Andrew Edtl (District 4 rep -Non-Voting)
Removed/Resigned: Brittany Donaldson (Parent), Tim Donaldson (Parent), Valeria Garcia (Parent)
1) September meeting minutes review and approval

2) Business items:
- Verified online roster- accurate. Possible new members next month.
- Timeline
- Next year Draft TSSP goals presented and Land trust items identified.
- Looking at going to a growth goal biased on the targets set by the MI & RI. Will be discussed with the district and BLT for feedback and other schools experiences.
- Planned upcoming changes from last year:

- WICOR prep days- plan was for 2 but was not funded, next year to adjust the budget for funding 2 days. High value for administration.
- ½ FTE for focus on Reading and Math with SP-ED.

- Next year Draft TSSP goals presented and Land trust items identified.
- Data review- TSSP/Land Trust
- On Track- reviewed data. Special Ed, Multilingual Learner largest groups below basic. Overall last year to this year very similar trends.
- Budgets
- Funding after school program- remains popular
- Registration for AVID Summer Institute will be happening and showing on new budgets. If extra budget allows, per past motion, could look at adding additional attendees.
- 5-6th grade summer bridge
3) Counselor’s Report
- 8th grade CCR appointments- Results only about 50% parent involvement. Councilors worked with all students on goals and transition information for high school
- Working with targeted students.
- Preparing for incoming 6th grade and outgoing 9th grade
- Jordan High Field Trip Feb 1st (today) for students
4) Faculty Report
- 5th grade students were greeted by NJHS, AVID Council, and the Student Council during 3rd period
- AVID Spirit Week and 6th & 8th grade field trip coming up
- AVID professional development – PLC implementing more and new collaboration strategies
- D’s and F’s work strategy 1st Friday of the month
- MI & RI rewards – kids loved the “Wheel of Destiny” for treats/swag

5) Principal’s Report
- ThriveTime Life Skills Participation
- The District is asking schools to try implementing. MJMS reviewed modules – preparation is very involved to initiate a full trial, two lessons were selected and are planned to implement this year with feedback.
6) Other:
- Next meeting moved to Thursday March 9th due to council member conflicts and timing of spring break. Motion – James / 2nd Harmony -None opposed Website was updated post meeting.
Harmony motion to dismiss February meeting, Mary to second. Mr. Durant will notify if other items come up of council concern.
